The NorCal OAUG will be sharing attendee information from events where Oracle provides support for the event.  The following is an email from the OAUG outlining Oracle's New Policy regarding Sharing of Event Attendee Lists.

OAUG Geo/SIG Committee Recommendation Regarding Oracle’s New Policy on

Sharing of Event Attendee Lists

The OAUG was informed on May 22, 2007 of a new Oracle mandate requiring Geo/SIG user communities to provide meeting attendee contact lists to the local Oracle Field Marketing Services group in order to receive Oracle’s support for events.  Oracle Field Marketing Services provides event support (including speakers, sponsorships, participation, funding, etc.) for some OAUG Geo/SIGs.

Oracle has indicated it is requiring event attendance lists in order to track the ROI of their participation and support for the local user community events. Oracle has further indicated that it will enter attendee contact information into their system as “do not contact,” so attendees should not be added to mailing or phone lists.

If your Geo or SIG intends to utilize support from Oracle Field Marketing Services for your event(s), the OAUG recommends that, in order to abide by the OAUG privacy policy*, your group should notify meeting attendees in advance or on your sign-in sheets on the day of the event that their contact information will be provided to Oracle Corporation. Meeting attendees should always have the option to decline to share their contact information.

We realize some groups may already be sharing meeting attendee lists with Oracle, so this new policy will obviously not have an impact on their events.  To those groups that currently do not share their lists, we recommend that you consider the following:

If your group feels Oracle’s new policy will impact the attendance and success of your events, please let OAUG know your specific concern(s). The OAUG Geo/SIG Committee can then approach Oracle to clarify what Oracle Field Marketing Services will and will NOT do with the attendee contact information.

Each Geo or SIG can decide on a policy that works best for their organization.  The OAUG Geo/SIG Committee will support your position. Please keep in mind that adhering to Oracle’s new policy will ensure a good relationship with Oracle Field Marketing Services, which is the preferred scenario for all groups.
